Gradall Forklift Parts - During the time when World War II created a scarcity of workers, the famous Gradall excavator was established in the 1940s as the brainchild of two brothers Koop and Ray Ferwerda. The brothers faced the problems of a depleted labor force due to the war. As partners in their Cleveland, Ohio construction company called Ferwerda-Werba-Ferwerda they lacked the existing laborers so as to do the delicate job of grading and finishing on their freeway projects. The Ferwerda brothers chose to build an equipment which will save their company by making the slope grading work less manual, easier and more efficient.

The very first excavator prototype consisted of a device with two industrial beams on a rotating platform fixed to a used truck. There was a telescopic cylinder that was used to move the beams back and forth. This enabled the fixed blade at the far end of the beams to pull or push the dirt. Before long enhancing the very first design, the brothers made a triangular boom so as to add more strength. As well, they added a tilt cylinder that let the boom turn 45 degrees in either direction. A cylinder was positioned at the back of the boom, powering a long push rod to allow the equipment to be outfitted with either a bucket or a blade attachment.

Gradall launched in the year 1992, with the introduction of the new XL Series hydraulics, the most innovative adjustment in their equipment since their invention. This new system of top-of-the-line hydraulics allowed the Gradall excavator to deliver comparable power and high productivity to the more traditional excavators. The XL Series ended the original Gradall equipment power drawn from low pressure hydraulics and gear pumps. These traditional systems efficiently handled grading and finishing work but had a difficult time competing for high productivity work.

The new XL Series Gradall excavators proved a significant increase in their digging and lifting ability. These models were made with a piston pump, high-pressure hydraulics system that showed huge improvements in boom and bucket breakout forces. The XL Series hydraulics system was even developed along with a load-sensing capability. Conventional excavators use an operator to pick a working-mode; where the Gradall system could automatically adjust the hydraulic power for the job at hand. This makes the operator's general work easier and likewise saves fuel simultaneously.

Once the new XL Series hydraulics became available in the market, Gradall was thrust into the vastly competitive industrial equipment market that are designed to tackle demolition, pavement removal, excavating and several industrial jobs. The introduction of the new telescoping boom helped to further improve the excavator's marketability. The telescoping boom gives the excavator the ability to better position attachments and to work in low overhead areas.
